Table of contents
On 11 and 12 July 2025, Horizon Vietnam had the honor of participating, together with numerous partners and volunteer groups, in a series of humanitarian and commemorative activities organized in Vị Xuyên district, Tuyên Quang province, in homage to the soldiers who fell defending Vietnam’s northern border. This significant event took place as part of the national day of commemoration of the battles of Vi Xuyên (July 12), a solemn moment to remember the sacrifices of the heroes with these words engraved in the collective memory: « Sống bám đá đánh giặc, chết hóa đá bất tử » (Living clinging to the rock to fight the enemy, dying to become stone eternal).

Inauguration ceremony of the Thuân Hoa bridge

Residents celebrate the inauguration of the bridge with a traditional dance
This project was born in a difficult context. In 2024, Typhoon Yagi hit the region, causing severe flooding and extensive damage. The suspension bridge that connected the hamlets of Lũng Buông and Lũng Cáng was destroyed, interrupting the connection between the two villages. The inhabitants found themselves isolated, facing great difficulties in traveling, working and accessing essential services.

Local authorities and partners inaugurate the Thuân Hoa Bridge
Faced with this emergency situation, a broad solidarity mobilization was activated. Thanks to the support of numerous donors, committed companies and groups of volunteers, it was possible to build a new reinforced concrete bridge, on solid foundations and more resilient to climate events. The construction site also benefited from the active involvement of local authorities and inhabitants, uniting the forces of an entire community around a future-oriented project.

The infrastructure, now completed, guarantees safe and continuous circulation between the two hamlets. It allows not only to restore essential connections between villages, but also to make the transport of people and goods, in particular agricultural products, safer. This bridge therefore represents a concrete lever for local development, a lasting response to the daily needs of rural families and a strong symbol of collective solidarity.

Solidarity actions in favor of local children and families
In parallel to the inauguration of the bridge, Horizon Vietnam and its partners have carried out various concrete actions to support local populations, with particular attention to children and families in precarious situations.

Volunteers provide VND 130 million in aid to students at Thanh Thủy Middle School
Aid worth a total of VND 130 million was provided to students of the Thanh Thủy Ethnic Minority Semi-Intermediate Middle School, including school supplies and financial support. The aim was to offer them better learning conditions, despite the challenges linked to geographical isolation and economic difficulties.

Scholarships and numerous other gifts were also offered
Furthermore, the delegation distributed 81 parcels of basic necessities to disadvantaged families in the hamlets of Lũng Buông and Lũng Cáng, as well as 32 scholarships and gifts to students from modest backgrounds. These gestures of solidarity, animated by a strong social commitment, aim to alleviate the daily difficulties of families and encourage young people to continue their school career with confidence.
Homage to the heroes of Vi Xuyên
As part of a solidarity trip and on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the Battle of Vi Xuyên (12 July), a delegation made up of volunteers and local representatives went, on 11 July 2025, to the Vị Xuyên National Cemetery and strategic point 468, two highly symbolic places in the history of border defense northern parts of Vietnam.

We lit incense in homage to the soldiers who fell for the country at the Vi Xuyên national cemetery
In an atmosphere that was both solemn and deeply moving, the participants lit joss sticks, placed offerings of gratitude and observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of the heroes and martyrs who fell for the country’s sovereignty. Every gesture, every glance directed at the engraved steles, expressed immense respect towards those who sacrificed their lives for their homeland.

This meditation ceremony is fully part of the Vietnamese tradition of “Uống nước nhớ nguồn” – drinking the water, remembering the source – reminding everyone that the current generations live thanks to the silent sacrifices of previous generations.

With this tribute, the delegation wanted not only to express its gratitude, but also to transmit the historical memory to the younger generations, so that courage, self-sacrifice and love for the homeland remain alive. The spirit of Vi Xuyên continues to animate those who today are committed to a Vietnam of solidarity, dignity and deeply rooted in its history.

July 11 and 12, 2025, in Thuân Hoa, were two intense days, dedicated to remembrance and solidarity. Between the ceremony honoring the heroes of Vi Xuyên, the inauguration of the bridge connecting Lũng Buông and Lũng Cáng and the support actions for local children and families, every moment demonstrated the importance of uniting efforts to help rural communities. Horizon Vietnam Travel is proud to have taken part in this meaningful initiative, together with committed partners and volunteers. Through every action carried out, we have been able to see how solidarity and human closeness are essential to concretely improve the lives of the inhabitants of the most remote areas. We reaffirm our commitment to continue on this path, continuing to accompany local communities through useful projects, responsible and supportive travel and lasting actions, at the service of more humane and equitable development.
